HUISI FAQ

Q:How does a flat-plate solar work?
A:The flat plate collector is understandable in construction. It is divided into three layers. First is the toughened glass which is the topmost part of the flat plate, with the function of trapping of maximum solar radiations and refract them inside. Second part is the absorber plate, which is generally a black body so that it can absorb the maximum amount of radiations and will get heat up. Copper pipes (good conductor of heat) is implemented on the absorber plate so that the heat of the absorber body is easily transferred to pipes and heat up the water which is obtained from our storage tanks. Third part is the frame of flat plate which is generally made up of the aluminium.

Q:Will water be heated on a cloudy day?
A:Yes. Although the heat output of the solar collector is reduced on overcast days it willstill be able to provide significant heating. If it is a heavily clouded day or raining, then more gas or electric boosting may be required to maintain water at the requiredtemperature. This system will be automated so you don't have to worry about running outof hot water on a rainy day.

Q:Can I use a solar collector with my existing hot water system?
A:Normally yes. Simple retrofit valves can often be used to allow solar to connect to your existing cold water inlet. If your tank cannot accept the solar input directly, an additional storage tank can be installed to pre-heat the cold water prior to entering the existing tank.

Q:Are the solar collectors noticeable on the roof?
A:If only the collector is mounted on the roof it should blend into the roof design quite well.Sinoyin solar collectors are very thin and can be flush mounted on a roof. From a distance they look somewhat like a skylight. You may have to check with your local council regarding building restrictions when installing your solar collector.

Q:Can Sinoyin solar collectors be mounted on a flat surface?
A:Yes they may be mounted on a flat roof, or on the ground by using a stainless steel Flat Roof Frame. The collector should be installed at a minimum of 20o angle to ensure optimal heat pipe operation.

Q:How do I protect my solar system during subzero temperatures?
A:If you have a system that is operating in areas with subzero temperatures then freeze protection must be implemented. The easiest means of preventing freezing is to use a controller with a low temperatures setting, so when the manifold temperature drops below a certain pre-set temperature (5oC/40oF), the pump will circulate, warming the collector with water from the bottom of the storage tank. The pump will run periodically, the frequency of which will depend on the outside temperature. In extremely cold areas, a closed loop using a glycol/water mix may be appropriate.

Q:Do solar thermal systems produce hot water in the winter? What about when it's cloudy or cold?
A:Sinoyin Solars manufactures and distributes solar hot-water systems that work exceptionally well in cold, cloudy and winter conditions. At times, however, especially during long periods of cloud cover, some light use of your backup system may be required to meet demands.

Q:Can I use a solar hot-water system for my business or to cut costs in my facility?
A:Absolutely. Solar hot-water systems can generally take care of the bulk of hot water needs for businesses, industrial facilities and manufacturing plants, to name a few. These types of applications generally use a large volume of hot water and can benefit greatly from a solar hot water system.

Q:Which collector is better: flat plate or evacuated tube?

Q:How much roof space will I need for my solar hot-water system?
A:This is largely dependent on the size of the solar hot-water system being installed. Each evacuated tube collector needs about 50 square feet, and each will generate anywhere from 80 to 120 gallons of hot water per day. Commercial solar hot-water systems can be as small as two or three collectors, or as large as several hundred or more.

Q:What kind of maintenance is required for a solar hot-water system?
A:A solar hot-water system requires very little maintenance, especially closed-loop systems. Closed-loop solar hot-water systems are designed to operate so almost no maintenance is required. The controls operate the pump and monitor the system鈥檚 activities on a daily basis.
